Travel

Switzerland's capital Bern is one of the most centrally located cities in Europe. It is a central node of the Swiss railway network and therefore easily reachable from many places.

By Air

Switzerland has three major airports with connections to every major European city and to many oversea destinations:

Bern has also its own small airport, but there are only a few daily connections to some European cities.

Bern can be reached easily from Zürich Airport (75min. direct train from the airport, every 1/2 hour), Geneva Aéroport (120min. train from the airport, every 1/2 hour), and EuroAirport Basel (shuttle bus to main station, 60min. direct train every 1/2 hour). See

for train timetables and online train tickets.

By Train

The most important Swiss train stations for international train connections are:

  • Basel (connections to Germany, France)
  • Zürich (connections to Germany, Italy, Austria)
  • Geneva and Lausanne (connections to France)

Bern can be reached easily from Zürich (60min. direct train, every 1/2 hour), Geneva (100min., every 1/2 hour), and Basel (60min. direct train every 1/2 hour). See
